Spy photographers in Germany recently spotted a BMW 8 series out in the open. Not many specifics are known about the car but expect it to line up against Mercedes-Benz's S class coupe.

Mini's recently redesigned Clubman is the latest model to receive the John Cooper Works performance treatment. The Clubman is powered by a 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo engine that produces 228 hp and 258 lb. feet of torque with all-wheel-drive. It's available with either a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission. Mini says it can hit 60 mph in 6 seconds.

Featuring a more rugged appearance and a higher ground clearance, the E-class All-Terrain is Mercedes' answer to Volvo's Cross Country and Audi's Allroad variants. Like the name suggests, it's based off the recently revamped E-class Estate wagon. It's not certain if Mercedes will bring the All-Terrain to the U.S.

Smart's open top variant of the ForTwo receives a similar redesign for the 2017 model year that the coupe received in 2016. The environmentally friendly two-seater is available in a wide array of colors and features soft tops in black and dark red that can open or close at any speed in 12 seconds.

The long-awaited return of the Toyota Supra is getting closer. Spy photographers in Germany recently spotted the next-gen Supra, which is being developed through a collaboration with BMW. Both companies are expected to share the front-engine underpinnings of the platform but Toyota is likely to use a hybrid-electric powertrain. The BMW variant is set to be the Z4 replacement.

Spy photographers recently spotted a crossover from Faraday Future in Southern California. Not much is known about the EV but it will likely compete with the Tesla Model X. A concept version will likely debut either late this year or in 2017. A source inside the company says the vehicle has a working name of Beta.

The Jeep Compass was redesigned onto the platform shared by the Jeep Renegade and Fiat 500X, but is larger than both, according to earlier spy photos. The redesigned Compass replaces the current version as well as the Jeep Patriot. FCA is expected to reveal the North American version of the Compass in November at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Production of the redesigned Compass is to begin this month in Brazil, Jeep brand head Mike Manley said in July, and expand this year into China and then Mexico for sale in North America in early 2017.

Buyers can choose from a 1.5-liter turbo, a 2.0-liter turbo mated with a nine-speed automatic transmission or a 1.6-liter turbodiesel that GM estimates will achieve 40 mpg in highway driving.

Smart will become the only major auto brand to offer its entire model lineup with both combustion engines and pure battery-electric drive, Mercedes-Benz said today. The 2017 Smart ForTwo Coupe and Cabrio electric drive are set to premiere at the Paris Motor Show, which starts next week. Both the ForTwo and ForTwo Cabrio electric drive are powered by an 80 hp electric motor and 118 pounds-feet of torque, which is immediately available from a standstill.
