Porsche 911 Speedster conceptJune 12
The Porsche 911 Speedster concept was created to celebrate the original 356’s 70th birthday -- the first 356 Roadster was licensed and approved for road use on June 8, 1948. Porsche’s Motorsport Center in Weissach developed the concept. It rides on the 911 GT3’s chassis and, according to the company, the naturally aspirated flat six generates more than 500 hp and is paired with a six-speed manual. The concept’s windshield and side windows are lowered as a reminder of the original Speedster, while the carbon-fiber rear decklid and hard tonneau cover are a nod to the first 911 Speedster, introduced in 1988. The interior is also Speedster-esque: To reduce weight, Porsche yanked the navigation, radio and air conditioning. The carbon-fiber buckets and cognac-colored leather pick up on early 356s. -- Autoweek
