NAFTA local origin rules could hurt U.S. auto sales, exports, study finds

American proposals on rules of origin that govern what percentage of a light vehicle needs to be built in the NAFTA region to avoid tariffs would hurt American consumers, lead to lower vehicle sales and hurt American car exports, according to a new study.

An independent trust handling GM's old bankruptcy claims reached a new settlement with customers who sued the automaker years ago over faulty ignition switches -- a deal that could force GM to give up more than $1 billion in new stock if a judge approves it.
