Volkswagen's supervisory board does not rule out doing away with a custom under which the automaker's top executive must be a company veteran, Chairman Hans Dieter Poetsch said.

VW aims to overcome a reputation as a secretive and autocratic company by introducing a "Meeting Mueller" program which allows employees to pose questions directly to the CEO. Matthias Mueller hints VW is working on new responsibilities for the board and that the company will use fewer consultants and rely on internal expertise.
