>> uninstall instructions

For the last three years, we've offered Automotive News Desktop Alerts as a way to learn what's going on in the business, in real time. The downloadable application has allowed readers to decide which stories they wanted to follow by selecting topics or keywords.

Unfortunately, starting Friday, Dec. 11, we no longer will offer Automotive News Desktop Alerts. For the users who adopted this tool, we apologize. If you wish to sign up for our daily, weekly or breaking alert emails, you can do so here.

If you are using our Desktop Alerts tool ...

Here are instructions for uninstalling the application:

1. To uninstall the Automotive News Desktop Alerts application on your system, position your cursor over the system tray icon (lower right area in your desktop toolbar -- it's a square with an AN in it) and right click with your mouse. This will bring up an application menu. Select Exit. When prompted by the confirmation box, which reads "Are you sure you wish to exit", select OK.

2. For all pre-Vista operating systems, go to your Control Panel and use Add/Remove Programs to uninstall it. The title of the program is Automotive News Desktop Alerts v1.62. If you are using Vista, double click on Programs and Features (in the Control Panel), highlight Automotive News Desktop Alerts v1.62 from the list, then click the Uninstall/Change button at the top of the list.

3. As a final step, open up My Computer/C/Program Files and move the Automotive News folder into your Recycle Bin.

The program is now removed from your system.
