    Jeep Gladiator concept

The Jeep Gladiator concept has mesmerized Jeep fans ever since it was shown at the 2005 Detroit auto show. Jeep brand head Mike Manley says he still gets asked about it, or at least a Jeep branded pickup, regularly. The concept truck was big -- it was built on a Ram frame, though it had a Wrangler body -- but it looked like a utilitarian dream. -- Larry Vellequette Go to the Gallery »

    Nissan Sport Sedan Concept

The concept, for all intents and purposes, is the next Maxima, which is due out in late 2015. Nissan global design chief Shiro Nakamura said the four-door concept uses sports car proportions and takes "sports car principles" in a sedan to the next level. The concept features a low, back-sloping roof and a concealed B-pillar. The front end displays a sharp V-shaped grille and boomerang-shaped headlights. The aggressive design should end sporadic speculation that the Maxima could be dropped from Nissan's lineup, now that the mid-sized Altima sedan has grown larger and more powerful. Volkswagen Beetle Dune concept

Volkswagen's Beetle Dune is a variant on its iconic car that evokes the Beetle-based dune buggies favored by tuners in the 1960s. It's a revival of a concept that Volkswagen showed at the Los Angeles auto show in 2000, which was never built. Likewise, some people might say this one is just eye candy for the auto show crowd. But that may not be the case. "While the concept car shown in California was not very realistic, especially with its interior and roof structure, the 2014 Dune Concept is a lot more feasible," VW said in a statement. Toyota FT-1 concept

Toyota says the FT-1 concept sports car is merely a design exercise, but more than a few features of the vehicle suggest that it could have a future as a production car. While paying homage to the history of Toyota sports cars, the FT-1 wasn't specifically designed to be the next Supra, a nameplate that has been absent from the United States for more than a decade. The 2014 models restore the Targa's classic hoop-shaped roof bar after a 21-year absence from the market. But unlike the original Targa, this roof system is fully automatic. At the touch of a button, a rear glass window opens and tilts out of the way to allow a soft convertible top to fold down behind the rear seats.
