Industry would benefit from more women execs

With this issue of Automotive News Europe, we present 25 leading women in the European auto industry. We identified a number of them right away. We then went to Europe's automakers and suppliers and asked for their help in finding other leading women. That's where the hard part of the selection process started. There were some companies that embraced our project wholeheartedly. There were others that came on board after we more thoroughly explained to them what we were doing. [SUB]

Help from India for Europe's ailing coachbuilders

Europe's coachbuilders are going through tough times. But it looks like they could be thrown a lifeline by new Indian and Chinese partners. France's Heuliez, which has been under bankruptcy protection since December, announced last week that India's Argentum Motors plans to become its major shareholder. And last Thursday, Pininfarina said India's Tata Motors has expressed an interest in becoming a shareholder in the Italian company. [SUB]

Last week's strikes at Renault's Dacia plant in Romania do not spell the end of low-cost production in central and eastern Europe. But the strike action by about 10,000 Dacia workers at Renault's Pitesti plant is a stark warning that wages in low-cost countries may start to rise faster than anticipated. [SUB]
