Toyota Auris
The Auris is the successor to the Corolla hatchback. It will be more upscale and will have styling similar to the Yaris small car. Toyota aims to position the Auris at the higher end of the lower-medium segment to lure buyers from the Volkswagen Golf and the Alfa Romeo 147. The production version of the Auris debuts at the Bologna auto show in December. Sales start in early 2007. The Auris will replace the Corolla hatchback on the production line at Toyota's plant in Burnaston, central England. A sedan version of the car will be built at Toyota's plant in Turkey and will keep the Corolla name.
Type: Compact 5-door hatchback
What's cool: The Auris looks like a cross between a Volkswagen Golf and Fiat Stilo. Interior components feel luxurious for a small car.
Production possibility: This is a mildly disguised replacement for the European Corolla. The look of the car probably won't migrate to America.
Designer: Toyota's European studio in Nice, France
