Opel Antara
The Antara succeeds the Frontera, which parent General Motors stopped building in Ellesmere Port, England, in 2004. The Antara shares its platform and many parts with the Captiva, a new SUV from GM's Chevrolet brand. The Captiva went on sale in Europe starting in June. Opel's variant will have more upscale features and technology than the Captiva. It also will cost at least €4,000 more. The Antara will be produced alongside the Captiva in Korea by GM Daewoo Auto and Technology. The Antara includes a standard four-wheel-drive system and more upscale interior materials than the Captiva. The Antara goes on sale with the same powerplant choices as the Captiva: 3.2-liter V-6 and 2.4-liter four-cylinder gasoline engines and a 2.0-liter common-rail turbodiesel. A smaller diesel engine will follow later. Antara prices start at €26,850 while the Captiva's base price is €22,490. The Antara reaches dealers starting in November.
