Mini Cooper S
BMW's second-generation Mini looks similar on the inside and outside to the current model, but it's different under the hood. The car gets a new 1.6-liter, four-cylinder engine gasoline engine from BMW's engine partnership with PSA/Peugeot-Citroen. The Peugeot 207 also gets a version of this engine. BMW says the engine is 30 percent more fuel efficient than the current gasoline engine supplied by Daimler- Chrysler and BMW's Tritec joint-venture engine plant in Brazil. The Mini grows 70mm in length to 3667mm to make room at its front end for the new engine and to meet EU pedestrian protection rules. But its wheelbase, height and width stay the same. Type: Subcompact
Seats: 4
Base engine: 1.6-liter, 4-cylinder, 120 hp
On sale: 2nd quarter 2007
Base price: $22,000 (est.)
What's cool: The second generation Mini gets bigger, the interior is even more playful and the quality of materials is improved.
