What it is: 8-speed automatic transmission for Lexus 2007 LS 460
Who did it: Lexus Division
Why it is important: With eight forward speeds, the new Lexus flagship will deliver around 25 mpg on the highway, reach 60 mph in about 5.5 seconds and meet ULEV II emissions standards. The LS 460 is the first car with an 8-speed transmission. It was designed by Toyota and Aisin AW engineers.PHOTOS: Richard Watson
