Mazda Nagare Concept
Mazda will inject nature into its edgy style with the Nagare concept that debuts at the Los Angeles auto show. Mazda Global Design director Laurens van den Acker says one word sums up the future of Mazda design: Flow. What’s that mean? Mazda design will be inspired by natural elements that capture motion, energy and lightness, says Franz von Holzhausen, head of Mazda North American design, who led the Nagare team at Mazda’s Irvine, California, studio.

Mazda Nagare
Type: Coupe
What's cool: Double-hinged doors swing upward like butterfly wings. Driver's seat is centrally located. Three rear seats create a "wraparound lounge."
Production possibility: None. Mazda describes this car as "a glimpse into 2020." But designers have been making flat, manta-ray-shaped cars for decades, and we're still no closer to seeing any of them built.
Designer: Exterior by Carlos Salaff. Interior by Katsuya Miyazaki.
