Raymond G. Boeman

Director, Transportation Program & National Transportation Research User Facility

Oak Ridge National Laboratory

Since June 2005, Dr. Raymond G. Boeman has managed Oak Ridge National Laboratory's (ORNL) Transportation Program and the National Transportation Research Center (NTRC) User Facility. In this capacity, he has responsibility for ORNL's research efforts in vehicle technology for the Department of Energy (DOE) FreedomCAR and Vehicle Technologies (FCVT) Program.

Dr. Boeman has held various research and management responsibilities in the transportation program since joining ORNL in 1991. He was a contributor to DOE's Lightweight Materials for Transportation Program Plan in 1992. In 1999, he began a five-and-a-half-year assignment in Detroit, Michigan, as technical liaison to the Automotive Composites Consortium (ACC), a consortium under the United States Council for Automotive Research. He served as the DOE lead on the ACC Focal Project III - a composite-intensive body-in-white. His close interactions with the automotive industry led to the establishment of two unique capabilities at ORNL - the Test Machine for Automotive Crashworthiness and the Next Generation Programmable Preforming Process.

In 2004, Dr. Boeman accepted a one-year assignment with the FCVT Program as Technical Coordinator to the DOE Director of the 21st Century Truck Partnership.

Dr. Boeman holds a Ph.D. in Engineering Science and Mechanics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, a Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering and Applied Mechanics from the University of Cincinnati, and Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Cleveland State University.
