CarMax recruiting for more than 1,000 jobs

CarMax Inc. said it is recruiting for more than 1,000 positions to fill across the country. The used-car retailer in Richmond, Va., said in a statement Wednesday it is offering full- and part-time permanent positions.

Most of the openings are in sales and service operations, which include detailers and technicians, CarMax said in a statement. The retailer also has openings in purchasing and in its business office.

“While many retailers are hiring for the holiday rush, we are looking for individuals who are looking for a long-term career,” CarMax spokeswoman Michelle Topping Ellwood said.

CarMax plans to open 10 to 15 stores during the next year, Ellwood said. Many of the positions will be in new locations, but some will be in existing stores and other operations.

CarMax is the biggest seller of used cars nationally and has been one of Fortune magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work for” since 2005.

“From day one, new associates are an integral part of our culture and business,” CarMax CEO Tom Folliard said in a statement. “They are our most valuable asset, and trusted advisors to our customers and to each other.”

CarMax has 139 superstores in 70 markets, but cities with the most job openings are Sacramento, Calif.; Bakersfield, Calif.; Cincinnati; Atlanta; Lancaster, Pa.; and Huntsville, Ala.

Job seekers can apply at Most positions, with the exception of technicians, require no prior automotive experience.
