Ford, Toyota reshape supplier strategies

Ford purchasing boss Hau Thai-Tang is reaching out to supplier CEOs in a bid to get their best teams working with Ford to deliver cutting-edge technology. As a lure, he's dangling global contracts and greater access to product info. Toyota's Robert Young is engaging suppliers earlier in the vehicle-development process. After an endorsement from parts makers, he's promoting an open-door policy and relationships 'built on trust.'
