AutoNation sales up 8 percent in its best July since 2006

AutoNation Inc. said today its U.S. new-vehicle retail sales increased 8 percent in July from a year earlier to 27,484 units -- the company’s best July since 2006.

Industrywide U.S. sales rose 9 percent in July.

The nation’s largest new-vehicle retailer’s luxury brands posted July sales of 5,113, up 17 percent. Import-brand sales rose 7 percent to 13,921, while sales of domestic brands increased 6 percent to 8,450, the company said in a statement.

Same-store retail sales advanced 7 percent. The retailer added that its sales in Florida grew 12 percent and those in California climbed 9 percent.

AutoNation ranks No. 1 on the Automotive News list of the top 125 dealership groups in the United States, with retail sales of 292,922 new vehicles in 2013.
