'Transformers' star Trumpchi GS5 ready for its close-up in the U.S.

Trumpchi wants to start exporting the GS5 to the United States “as quickly as possible.”

Now that the Trumpchi GS5 is a movie star, the Chinese automaker that builds the sporty crossover is ready to screen-test it for the United States.

The GS5, which makes an appearance in Transformers: Age of Extinction, could arrive in U.S. showrooms as early as next year, says Trumpchi chief Wu Song.

"Our sponsorship of Transformers 4 will help more overseas dealers and consumers know about our cars, and over the long run, it will greatly contribute to our branding," Wu told Bloomberg. "We want to start exporting to the U.S. as quickly as possible, and I am confident that they will find our Trumpchi cars competitive."

The brand was formed by Guangzhou Automobile in 2010. Wu says Trumpchi was approached to participate in the fourth installment of the Transformers franchise after director Michael Bay saw the Trumpchi E-Jet electric car at an auto show.

Trumpchi vehicles are exported to the Middle East, South America and Russia.
