One of the hottest collectible cars of the 2015 model year likely will be the 50 Year Limited Edition Mustang. There are 3,200 Ford dealers, and just 1,964 will be built — reflecting the year the first Mustang arrived. That engineered scarcity means collectors probably will have to pony up lots of cash above sticker to lasso one.
Ford spokesman Brian Cotter said Ford dealers recently took part in a lottery to determine who’ll get the cars.
Many will get none, some will get one and a few dealers who sell Mustangs in high volume could get more than one, Cotter said.
The car will arrive this fall. The price has not been announced.
The 50 Year Limited Edition Mustang is based on the Mustang GT and will have Ford’s 420-hp 5.0-liter V-8. Aside from the color choice — white or blue — the only other option is automatic or manual transmission. The car will have a two-tone interior, special grille and badges and loads of features that are optional on other models.
