Automotive News will open a Silicon Valley bureau this year to cover the technology companies that are playing a greater role in the industry.
Gabe Nelson will move to the San Francisco area this summer to steer the effort. He also will cover some automakers with a California presence, including Tesla Motors. Nelson, 26, joined Automotive News in 2012 as a reporter in Washington.
In a related move Ryan Beene has transferred to Washington, where he will succeed Nelson in covering Volkswagen, Audi and government policy as it affects the auto industry. Beene, 29, came to the paper in 2010 as a reporter in Los Angeles.
Also, Elizabeth Hardy has joined Automotive News as a copy editor. Hardy, 33, came from the Detroit Free Press, where she spent 12 years, most recently in the position of assistant editor for copy editing.
Hardy is a native of the Detroit area. She received a bachelor's degree in journalism from Michigan State University.
