Enterprise expands car-sharing business into Canada

Enterprise Holdings’ Canadian subsidiary has purchased a car-sharing company in Toronto, the company said.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car Canada Co.’s acquisition of AutoShare CarSharing Network Inc. is the Canadian subsidiary’s first entry into the car-sharing business.

Terms were not disclosed.

Enterprise Holdings operates Enterprise CarShare, a car-sharing business, in the United States and Europe. It also operates Enterprise Rideshare, a car pool business; and Zimride by Enterprise, a ride-matching business in the United States.

AutoShare was established in 1998 and has more than 12,000 members, Enterprise Holdings said. The newly acquired company will operate under its current brand indefinitely. It will be managed by Enterprise Canada’s Toronto division.

Enterprise Holdings also operates the Enterprise, National and Alamo car-rental brands.
