The boss breaks the rules on product secrets

Marchionne: Says what he wants

Chrysler executives, like their counterparts at other automakers, have a stock answer when reporters ask about developments at the company's r&d center and design studios.

It goes pretty much like this: "Our rule is we don't talk about future product."

But Sergio Marchionne sometimes bends the rules a little. Here are product nuggets the CEO revealed during a March 14 press conference:

  • Chrysler is working on a hybrid minivan.
  • The next-generation Jeep Wrangler will keep its signature look when it arrives in early 2015.
  • The redesigned Dodge Dart will be a "slimmer, more efficient" car when it arrives for the 2016 model year.
  • It's safe to say that nobody gave him a lecture on protocol afterward.
