MINNEAPOLIS — John Peterson, a Minnesota dealer who was the National Automobile Dealers Association president in 1996, died Nov. 7.

He was 84.

Peterson started his automotive career as a lot boy at a Buick store here. He worked in sales and management positions.

In 1968, he bought a Bloomington, Minn., dealership, which he renamed Peterson Pontiac-GMC Truck and operated for 32 years.
