Marketing movement

Here's a quick scan of changes in automotive marketing.

Commonwealth, Chevrolet's agency of record, announced two key executive appointments after the late-January departure of the agency's president, veteran auto industry ad executive Joe Garcia.

Sharon Wacker, a longtime executive with Ford's agency, Team Detroit, has joined Commonwealth as managing director for North America. That post was previously held by Kate MacNevin, who becomes Commonwealth's executive director of global operations. A spokesman for parent company McCann declined to discuss the reasons for Garcia's departure.

Team Detroit named advertising technology executive Kurt Unkel to the newly created position of global chief digital officer. Unkel had been president of VivaKi, a Publicis Groupe-owned advertising technology firm. While at VivaKi, Unkel led the development of a variety of digital media and technology products, including Audience on Demand, a pioneering media buying service.

Before VivaKi, Unkel was vice president and media director on the General Motors account with Starcom MediaVest Group. Unkel will report to Mark LaNeve, COO of Global Team Ford, and begins on March 1.
