Hudson Cook, a law firm that specializes in consumer finance law for auto dealers and auto lenders, has hired Rick Hackett, a former assistant director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau who was the bureau's liaison with the auto finance industry.
Hackett left the CFPB last summer, after announcing in June that he was stepping down from day-to-day work there. He joined the bureau in May 2011 and has not been replaced.
Tom Hudson, a partner at Hudson Cook in Hanover, Md., confirmed at the National Automobile Dealers Association conference in New Orleans last week that Hackett had been hired. Hudson said he and Hackett have known each other for around 30 years.
Hudson said Hackett will work in Hudson Cook's office in Portland, Maine. He's expected to begin in March.
Hackett has previously worked in Portland at the Pierce Atwood firm.
"That's one of the reasons we were able to get him," Hudson said.
