Ex-Chevy vet Dewar shifts to NASCAR

While the auto world focused on all the personnel changes at General Motors last week, a former GM stalwart quietly snagged a big job. Ex-Chevrolet brand boss and racing enthusiast Brent Dewar was named the COO of NASCAR.

Brian France, CEO of the stock car racing monolith, called Dewar "naturally collaborative, an essential trait as we work more closely with the OEMs, teams, tracks, broadcast partners and others to grow the sport over the next decade."

Dewar, now 58, left GM in 2010 and has worked as a consultant for GreenOrder and Courland International. Most recently he was managing partner at Whitby Advisors, which consulted for NASCAR.

His last GM assignment was senior vice president global Chevrolet, responsible for leading Chevy in 130 markets.

He may be best remembered for launching Chevy's "An American Revolution" campaign in 2003. The campaign ran until 2010, though Dewar said he thought at the time that it would have just a three-year shelf life.
