Moving on takes time, planning

Regarding Jamie LaReau's Feb. 19 blog, "Selling a dealership: A painful process of letting go," autonews.com:
There comes a time for most of us to move on. The problem is that ego, fear and other emotions may make it hard to find the correct path to follow.
I was a dealer for 15 brands over 35-plus years, and moving on was a difficult but necessary decision.
Too many dealers hang on for all the wrong reasons.
Deciding when and how to exit may be one of the most important financial steps a dealer takes. It requires proper planning, and it takes time and patience.
These past 10 years have not been for the faint of heart. New skills are required, and if you don't have them, you're going to get run over.
I love this industry, but my personal attributes have led me in a different direction. Today I am a happier person. Isn't that what life is all about?
