American Axle hires former GM engineering exec
DETROIT -- Drivetrain supplier American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc. has hired retired General Motors executive Terry Woychowski to lead the supplier's engineering activities.
Woychowski, 57, currently is president of the Engineering Society of Detroit. The company announced his appointment today in a statement.
He spent nearly 33 years at GM, most recently as the automaker's vice president of global vehicle program management before retiring in March 2011.
Woychowski, now American Axle's senior vice president of engineering and quality, has been president of ESD since July 2011. He will continue to serve in the unpaid position at ESD until his term is over in June.
Woychowski earned a bachelor's in mechanical engineering from Michigan Technological University and attended the global executive program at the Duke University School of Business.
Because of Wychowski's hiring, American Axle has moved Mark Barrett to group vice president of procurement and program management from group vice president of engineering and procurement.
American Axle generated net income of $366.7 million on revenue of $2.9 billion in 2012, up from net income of $137.1 million on revenue of $2.6 billion in 2011.
