Exhibitors shine light on facilities

Lighting is big at the convention this year.

There are 24 show-floor exhibitors in the lighting category, up from 10 last year and just six in 2007, the last NADA convention before the recession. That gives lighting the largest percentage growth from those years of any of the 35 exhibitor categories.

The increase in lighting exhibitors is part of a focus on facilities this year.

Consider the growth in these exhibitor categories:

• Design/construction: 55, up from 28 in 2007 and 37 last year.

• Display & signs: 40, up from 18 in 2007 and 29 last year.

• Furnishing/storage: 25, up from 20 in 2007 and 14 last year.

• Lifts: 20, up from 12 in 2007 and 13 last year.

• Service department tools/ equipment: 78, up from 64 in 2007 and 69 last year.

The number of lighting vendor displays are still far short of the 165 exhibitors in the perennially most-populous category: advertising, marketing and promotions. More than a fourth of this year's 579 exhibitors, up from 482 in 2012, fall into that category.

The next-largest category is Internet services, with 104 exhibitors.

But there's a lot of overlap. Many of the advertising, marketing and promotions exhibitors also claim a spot in the categories of Internet services, computer services, customer satisfaction and customer relationship management.

In contrast, lighting is lighting.
