Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche's future has been the subject of speculation, but the former Chrysler boss says we can stop speculating. He says he's pretty sure his contract will be extended before it expires at year end.

The rumbling started after the company issued a profit warning in October, saying it faced "more difficult market conditions." And late last year Zetsche told the newspaper Boersen-Zeitung that Mercedes-Benz had failed to keep up with rivals in the compact car market and in China.

But last week Zetsche told another German paper, Welt am Sonntag, that he expects his contract to be renewed.

"There are good indications that I will continue as the head of Daimler," Zetsche, 59, told the paper. We'll know soon -- and it's not likely Zetsche would publicly come off so confident unless he had been getting some good vibes. He said Daimler's board would decide next month.
