Tesla factory running full tilt

Automotive News | January 21, 2013 - 12:01 am EST

Tesla Motors' Fremont, Calif., assembly plant is now at its full run-rate of 20,000 electric Model S sedans per year. The company also has begun producing 60 kWh vehicles -- the midgrade trim level -- in addition to the top-end 85 kWh cars. As a result, the wait for a new Model S has been trimmed to four to six months, depending on content. Executives said the Model X crossover is still on pace for a mid-2014 launch. The company said it expects to turn its first quarterly profit this year.
