Spectators with smartphones will be able to download the Detroit auto show's first official mobile app this year.
iPhone and Android users will have access to breaking news, photos and live-stream video coverage of more than 50 vehicle unveilings at the North American International Auto Show next week. As of this afternoon, the app was available to iPhone users, but the Adroid app was not yet active -- a spokesman said it would running soon.
The application also has a map of Cobo Center, site of the show, and a virtual guide to Detroit's restaurants and businesses. Other features include weather forecasts, links to news outlets and social media interaction on platforms such as Twitter.
The application lets users stream the #NAIAS topic on Twitter so they can follow the latest auto show tweets.
After the media and other events next week, the public show runs from Jan. 19-27.
"The new NAIAS app puts everything auto show in the palm of smartphone users," said Jim Seavitt, the 2013 show's chairman, in a statement. "It is the best way to keep track of what's happening at the show on a minute-by-minute basis."
