Subaru of America said it posted its fourth consecutive record year of sales and predicted that sales in 2013 will reach another high.

Subaru sold 336,441 vehicles last year, up 26 percent over 2011. December sales rose 9 percent to 36,653 units, making it the best month in Subaru history, the company said its monthly sales report today.

Sales of the Impreza compact sedan and five-door rose about 150 percent in 2012 over the previous year. Sales of the freshened Outback crossover were up 13 percent, and those of the Legacy sedan were up 11 percent.

"We met our goals for the year, and we crossed a new milestone by exceeding 300,000 annual sales," COO Tom Doll said in a statement.

Doll said Subaru expects to sell 365,000 vehicles in 2013 when it launches a redesigned Forester crossover and has a full year of XV Crosstrek sales. The XV Crosstrek is Subaru's smallest crossover in the United States and is based on the Impreza.

Subaru is likely to conquest more customers this year, Doll said, "as customers returning to the market look for more fuel-efficient products like Impreza."
