JTEKT expands hub bearing plant in South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- JTEKT Corp. says it will spend $130 million to expand its Koyo ball bearing factory in Richland County, S.C. The project, which will generate 175 jobs, will double the plant's floor space to 500,000 square feet. The plant produces bearing hub units for Toyota Motor Corp., BMW AG and General Motors.

JTEKT, of Nagoya, Japan, ranks No. 21 on the Automotive News list of the top 100 global suppliers with worldwide parts sales to automakers of $8.06 billion in fiscal 2011.
