Jim Lentz has guided Toyota through some rough terrain -- the hit to its image from the 2010 unintended acceleration crisis, followed by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami that shredded the company's Japanese manufacturing base.
Lentz, 57, has been the American leader of a sales, marketing and distribution turnaround that has Toyota market share and brand recognition nearly back to prerecession heights.
The Camry is still the best-selling car in America. North American profits are up again. All of this has been done with little reliance on fleet sales, while making sure dealers made it through the crisis intact.
