Goodyear to trim 200 jobs at N.C. tire plant

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. plans to eliminate 200 jobs at its tire plant in Fayetteville, N.C., reports the Fayetteville Observer. The plant, which has 2,750 employees, produces replacement tires for passenger vehicles and light trucks. According to Local 959 of the United Steelworkers of America, the plant has cut daily production to 29,000 tires from 38,000 previously.

Goodyear, of Akron, Ohio, ranks No. 48 on the Automotive News list of the top 100 global suppliers with worldwide parts sales to automakers of an estimated $4.2 billion in 2011.
