Change we need

Little seems changed in Washington in the wake of last week's election. President Obama is still in the White House. Democrats still control the Senate, and Republicans still control the House of Representatives.

But there must be change -- and it must happen fast, during the lame-duck session of Congress.

The so-called fiscal cliff looms as automatic spending cuts and tax increases worth, according to Bloomberg, more than $600 billion begin to take effect Jan. 1 unless there is a compromise that breaks the gridlock. That could torpedo the U.S. economy and auto recovery.

The first order of business in Washington must be finding a solution. It is time for all sides to reason together.
