DETROIT -- General Motors plans to begin selling an upscale Chevrolet Sonic sometime in 2014.
This week, GM will show a close-to-production version of the Sonic Dusk sedan at the Specialty Equipment Market Association show in Las Vegas. The subcompact features an ashen gray exterior, rear spoiler, 18-inch aluminum wheels, black leather-trimmed seats and suede touches.
After showing the car as a concept at last year's SEMA show, GM decided that "customers are interested in a more-refined subcompact," Chris Perry, vice president of Chevrolet marketing, said in a statement. "We're moving quickly to bring Sonic Dusk to Chevrolet showrooms."
GM said the Sonic Dusk sedan is meant to bring "a higher degree of refinement and sophistication" to the subcompact buyer.
In addition, the 2013 Sonic RS, a sporty hatchback that plays on Chevy's racing heritage, will arrive in showrooms by year end.
