2013 Scion iQ EV to join car-sharing programs

Toyota said 90 2013 Scion iQ EVs are arriving in the United States today.

The four-seaters will be used for car sharing and fleets, Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. said in a statement. There are also a small number of the vehicles arriving in Japan.

The iQ EV, powered by a lithium ion battery, has a projected driving range of about 50 miles on a full charge. Meanwhile, the Nissan Leaf electric vehicle gets about 73 miles per charge.

The iQ EV is designed for urban areas where streets are narrow, parking is limited, and charging opportunities numerous, Toyota said.

The iQ EV began production in September at Toyota's Takaoka Plant in Toyota City.
