To the Editor:
I'm a 35-year Automotive News subscriber, and I read Edward Lapham's Sept. 17 column regarding the disappearance of fall new-vehicle introductions ("It used to be the most wonderful time of the year").
I am pleased to know that at least one other person misses those times; I suspect there are many more of us.
The times of new models being covered as they were transported to dealers, papered showroom windows, newspaper advertisements and crowded dealerships on the "official announcement" evening -- those are memories of a bygone era.
The last covered delivery I saw was in late September 1969, when the first 1970 Monte Carlo was delivered to our local Chevy dealer.
Thanks for the nostalgia.
