North America car and truck production rose 5 percent in September from September 2011 to 1,258,439 units. That stretched the record streak of year-over-year gains to 35 months in a row.

Car production rose 27 percent in the United States and 5 percent in Canada but fell 1 percent in Mexico. North American car output rose 15 percent.

Truck output fell 11 percent in the United States but climbed 12 percent in Canada and 27 percent in Mexico. North American truck production slipped 3 percent.

Vehicle output rose 3 percent in the United States and 9 percent in Canada and in Mexico.
