Dealer Bruce Bendell on surviving in N.Y. City
September 24, 2012 - 12:01 am ETBruce Bendell says if you can "make it'" in the car business in New York City, "everywhere in the world is a lot easier." The 58-year-old CEO of Major Automotive Companies says soaring real estate costs in the area make it difficult to offer all dealership services in a single location. Still, customers have been buying from Bendell's stores for four decades. The Bronx-based dealer believes stair-step incentive programs can be "disruptive" to dealerships, wants manufacturers to pay for store image programs, and says the business isn't "as fun as it used to be."
