Calvin Leroy Smith


DADEVILLE, Ala. -- Calvin Leroy Smith, who was CFO at Roswell Jeep-Eagle in Roswell, Ga., for many years, died Aug. 26. He was 86.

According to a former colleague, Smith began his career in 1945 and worked in accounting for Packard Motor Car Co. for several years. After that he worked as an accountant in the marketing investment division at Chrysler for more than 20 years and retired in the late 1980s. He held the position at the Roswell dealership for about 14 years.

Jeffrey Wooley


TAMPA, Fla. -- Jeffrey Wooley, a director of Asbury Automotive Group, died Sept. 17. He was 67.

Wooley began his automotive career in 1965 as a salesman. He opened his first dealership in 1975 and over several years built Courtesy Automotive Group. Among the brands he sold were Pontiac, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Toyota, Lincoln, Mercury, Isuzu and Kia.

Wooley sold his stores to Asbury in 1998. He was CEO of Asbury's Tampa dealership group until 2005 and nonexecutive chairman from 2005 to 2010. He joined Asbury's board in 2003.
