GM's Alan Batey: We will 'surprise a lot of people'

September 10, 2012 - 12:01 am ET

Alan Batey appears to be GM's 'go-to' guy after a crisis. He galvanized Chevy's sales force and dealer network following the automaker's bankruptcy. Now, he's shoring up the company's marketing efforts following the sudden departure of Joel Ewanick. While the well-traveled Batey doesn't expect to be interim CMO for long, he's using his overseas experience to help 'globalize' GM's brands, encourage dealers to upgrade stores unless 'it doesn't make business sense,' and 'create a customer-centric culture' with assistance from the folks at Disney.
