If the former comptroller of a New York auto dealership pays more than $200,000 in restitution before her sentencing this week she will get probation rather than jail time, the Rockland County, N.Y., district attorney's office said.
Carol Grabbe pleaded guilty to two grand larceny charges stemming from her theft of more than $829,000 from Bill Kolb Jr. Subaru in Orangeburg from 2005 to 2009. The indictment said she stole another $8,800 by doubling her pay.
The restitution order covers only the amount stolen during the 11-month period covered by the two charges. The prosecution dropped tax-fraud charges.
The district attorney's office said a forensic accountant discovered the "sweeping theft" after Subaru of America told Kolb it was delinquent by more than $2 million. Sentencing is set for Tuesday, Sept. 11.
