A Chrysler Group minivan likely will be the next project on which Chrysler and Fiat will share vehicle architectures, CEO Sergio Marchionne told reporters last week. That minivan could be the redesigned Dodge Grand Caravan, scheduled to be redesigned for the 2015 model year.

Company executives say the first such project, the 2013 Dodge Dart on a stretched and widened version of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta architecture, showed how to do it.

Not all vehicles will be able to share architectures, Marchionne said. But modularity will work for many. He said: "We'll need 3 1/2 or four architectures for mass market cars.''
