eBay enhances its certified-used site
eBay’s Chin: Site is easier for shoppers to use.
Several auto companies and their franchised dealers are showcasing certified used-vehicle programs and inventory on eBay's improved certified used-vehicle site.
The site is easier for shoppers to navigate and has a new feature that allows side-by-side comparisons of certified programs, says Kristine Chin, head of eBay's Motors division.
"It makes it easier for buyers to find what they are looking for, and it's more graphical to draw them in," says Chin.
Once auto companies pay a fee to participate, dealers post certified-used inventory for free, an eBay spokeswoman says. The company would not disclose the auto companies' fees.
Chin says the classified site made the changes in May. Participating certified brands include Ford, Mercury, Lincoln, Buick, Chevrolet, GMC, Pontiac, Saturn, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Porsche, Lexus, Scion, Toyota and Volkswagen. The site is accessible from the main eBay Motors page.
Chin says some auto companies have reported that vehicle searches on the site have doubled since the changes.
Terry Kidd, owner of Kidd Ford in Morrison, Tenn., says he always featured his certified used-vehicle inventory on third-party sites, with good results.
The revamped eBay site is "good exposure and gives the customers more opportunity to look at the certified pre-owns we have in stock," Kidd says. "When you have something that people are familiar with and are comfortable using, it always helps out."
