Jaguar’s 2013 XJ and XF sedans will be available with all-wheel drive, the first time the company has offered awd since discontinuing the X-Type in the United States in 2008.

All-wheel drive will be available with a new 3.0-liter V-6 engine on the XF and the standard and long-wheelbase XJ sedans. The awd transmission is a $3,000 option. Jaguar developed the transmission with ZF Friedrichshafen. Magna is supplying the transfer case and Dana will supply the front differential. David Pryor, brand vice president of Jaguar North America, said both cars were “re-engineered to enable all-wheel drive.”

He conceded: “We are a little late to the party.”
