Lower battery prices? Doubtful

To the Editor:

Regarding "Study: Lithium ion battery prices to tumble" (autonews.com, Aug. 7): The technology for batteries to directly power vehicles in place of fossil-fueled internal combustion engines is at a cost plateau.

There is no reason to believe that any current technology can reduce costs simply by scaling up production.

I don't believe that lithium ion technology will ever be cost effective against gasoline or diesel fuel.
