AutoNation new vehicle sales rise 14 percent in July

DETROIT (Reuters) -- AutoNation Inc. said new vehicle sales to retail customers in the United States rose 14 percent in July  -- well ahead of the national sales gain of  9 percent.

The company said sales in its import segment jumped 26 percent to 11,510 units, while domestic sales rose 5 percent. Total new vehicle sales rose to 21,650 units.

AutoNation ranks No. 1 on the Automotive News list of the top 125 dealership groups in the United State with new-vehicle retail sales of 224,034 units in 2011.
