Ford sets C-Max Energi plug-in hybrid’s starting price at $33,745

The C-Max Energi plug-in hybrid will be available at EV-certified Ford dealers in 19 markets in late fall.

DETROIT -- Ford Motor Co. said today the price of the C-Max Energi plug-in hybrid will start at $33,745, including a $795 shipping fee, and will be eligible for a $3,750 federal tax credit. After the tax credit, the vehicle will cost $29,995, including shipping.

At that level, the compact minivan’s sticker price would be slightly less than the Toyota Prius plug-in hybrid. The Prius plug-in hybrid starts at $32,760, including shipping, but is only eligible for a $2,500 tax credit, leaving the price after the tax credit at $30,260.

By comparison, the Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid starts at $39,995 and is eligible for a $7,500 tax credit, leaving it at $32,495 for qualified customers.

The C-Max Energi plug-in hybrid will be available at EV-certified Ford dealers in 19 markets in late fall, shortly after the C-Max Hybrid. It will be available nationwide in early 2013.
